BOOK CLUB
Accepted nominations on Instagram for Book Club this month. Giovanni’s Room, A Spy in the House of Love, The Custom of the Country, and Chronicle of a Blood Merchant were nominated. I added in The Parisian. We voted via google form, ranking our top 3 and I used a point system to weigh the votes. According to this system, A Spy in the House of Love won. We’ll start meeting on December 4th. We’ll host the book club in Patreon. Sign up here
BACK MATTER
The Paradox of Social Media Activism - in the same vein as ‘the internet is not the real world.’ Though it has irl repercussions, research + critical thinking about how social media functions really complicates the ways that social media activism does (or does not) yield our intended outcomes. It also increases a mental/conscious polarization, runs the risk of algorithmic radicalization, and alienates people from their direct, small communities. The biggest, most direct opportunity for social good is likely using your money to donate to honest funds/charities (feel free to throw any in the comments) and/or helping someone right outside of your front door
I <3 my computer, I don't want (it) to die - reflections on a digital childhood, a tech-y father, and hope for the future
Date (w) Me: The End of Mr. Babitz - on ending things maturely when compatibility seems unlikely, and two new(ish) flings
i hope you all have a lovely week! as always, feel free to comment your little deaths/delights, anything you found interesting/important, and/or charities/funds you’d like people to be aware of
