The Truman show came up in our interview with Jonathan Haidt. In an era marked by the performance of identity through social media, when everything becomes something trying to sell someone something else, everything feels like the Truman show.

I feel like this in the context of a lot of social interaction, but particularly dating.

I dated someone who had a mirror at the head of their bed. The first time I saw it, I giggled.

“You’re on the Truman show” he said.

Part of me believed him.
